There is so much emphasis put on leadership in our culture, but we forget that we are called to be great followers of Jesus before we can ever be great leaders. The greatest leaders in the Bible were the greatest followers of Jesus. We all have people in our life we want to follow and imitate, so the question for each of us is, “is my faith worth imitating?” This starts with being a follower of Jesus first and foremost.
Jesus is inviting us into a better story; a story of victory, adventure, transformation, hardship, adversity, and redemption. When Jesus says, “follow me,” He’s inviting you into an apprenticeship with Him, to learn from Him, to live like Him, to speak like Him, to be more like Him. This apprenticeship is what we call ‘discipleship’.
Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Teaching them to obey all that I’ve commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20). That is what we want to do as individuals and as a Church. We want to be in relationship with Jesus and follow Jesus’ lead to invite more people to build a relationship Him.
It is easy for us to believe we are supposed to stay comfortable, but growth happens when we decide to follow Jesus instead of the cultural status quo.
At LifeBridge, we want to help you get connected to the community, build relationships and take your next step toward Jesus! Maybe your next step is showing up next weekend for a church service, maybe it’s committing to a serving opportunity, or maybe it’s meeting new people and joining a group. Let us help you take your next step!
