But far from being a reason for despair, this reality is actually an invitation: when we understand that death is certain and judgment is coming, we’re freed to stop chasing emptiness and start living fully, in step with God.

HOLY WEEK | GOOD FRIDAY⁠
⁠
Jesus was tried, condemned, and crucified at Golgotha, dying on the cross in the afternoon. He was buried in a sealed tomb, and his followers were left in shock and grief.⁠
⁠
Thank you, Lord, for the cross — for love that did not turn back, for grace that absorbed the very worst and called it finished. On this solemn day, may we never take lightly what it cost you to save us⁠

The Goodness of Jesus on Good Friday⁠
⁠
At first glance, Good Friday seems like anything but good. A man is beaten, mocked, and nailed to a cross. Yet Scripture reveals that in this apparent defeat, the deepest goodness the world has ever known was on full display.⁠
⁠
He went willingly.⁠
⁠
Jesus told his disciples in John 10:18, "No one takes my life from me, but I lay it down of my own accord." His arrest, his trial, his cross — none of it was forced upon him. Every step toward Calvary was a voluntary act of love. That is not the portrait of a victim; it is the portrait of a shepherd laying down his life for his sheep.⁠
⁠
He forgave from the cross.⁠
⁠
Even as the nails were driven in, Jesus prayed over those crucifying him — "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do" (Luke 23:34). In the moment of his greatest suffering, his instinct was not vengeance but mercy. There is no greater picture of the character of God than a Savior interceding for the very people destroying him.⁠
⁠
He fulfilled every promise.⁠
⁠
The prophet Isaiah wrote centuries earlier that "he was pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities" (Isaiah 53:5). Every detail of Good Friday — the betrayal, the false trial, the casting of lots for his clothing, the cry of desolation — was foretold. Jesus did not stumble into suffering; he walked straight into the fulfillment of God's redemptive plan with perfect faithfulness.⁠
⁠
He accomplished what nothing else could.⁠
⁠
Paul writes in Romans 5:8, "God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Good Friday is good not because suffering is good, but because what Jesus accomplished through it is staggering — the cancellation of sin's debt, the defeat of death's power, and the opening of a way back to the Father that humanity had long since lost.⁠

He endured to the end.⁠
⁠
When Jesus cried out "It is finished" in John 19:30, it was not a cry of defeat — it was a declaration of completion. The Greek word used, tetelestai, was a term stamped on paid-in-full receipts in the ancient world. Every sin, every shame, every debt owed — marked paid in the blood of the Son of God.⁠

Trying to bury the past won’t heal it. It won’t bring the validation you’re searching for. It’s like burning photos to escape what’s already happened—it doesn’t change the story.

But here’s the hope: God doesn’t just bury things. He resurrects them. And He can transform even the deepest pain into new life.
